The eye will sometimes be padded for a few hours after surgery. The lid can be bruised, swollen and heavy for the first one to two weeks after surgery. If you have had both eyes operated the bruising and swelling can be quite asymmetrical. Therefore, one must not judge the success of the surgery on the first days following surgery. You may experience mild pain for which normal pain-killers can be used. The eye can feel gritty, dry and watery and be a bit red. You will have stitches in the eyelid, which will be removed in the week after surgery. You will also be given artificial tear drops and topical antibiotic ointment for the eye.
